ARPing players
I gave up on the crossover cable, and am now trying to use my old router. I have everything set up, and have GCARS-CS loaded to both Cubes (one with PSO, the other with Samson's loader). GCARS-CS boots fine, but when I try to start the game, it gets stuck at ARPing players (or something like that). Anyone know what the problem might be? Do I need to post all my GCARS-CS IP settings and stuff? Thanks in advance.

Well, I know that .99 introduced some new bugs. Maybe go back to .95?

I remember fuzziquer making a comment somewhere that this happens when the gateway doesn't exist. Maybe a typo where you type in your gateway IP?

I remember fuzziquer making a comment somewhere that this happens when the gateway doesn't exist. Maybe a typo where you type in your gateway IP? Possible, but shouldn't it get hung up before that on "ARPing default gateway"? I'm not sure, I'll check that when I get a chance. Thanks.

If there is no gateway (i.e. all players are on the same network), then set the default gateway to the address of some other device on the network (preferably not another GameCube, although you can if you must), and don't use DHCP. If you're using a crossover cable, just set the gateway to the other GC's address.

If you're using a crossover cable, just set the gateway to the other GC's address. Well, I'm using a router, which has 3 clients: my laptop, and the two GameCubes. It's not connected to the Internet. I currently have the default gateway set to the router's IP (192.168.0.1), and I have DHCP disabled for the Cubes (they are 192.168.0.132/133), but enabled for my laptop (192.168.0.100). Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 (if I remember correctly; I know it's the same one that worked online and is copied from ipconfig). Do any of these settings sound wrong?

fuzziqersoftware- 06-14-2006

No, they sound fine to me - check your network cables, or maybe try using a different version of GCARS.

No, they sound fine to me - check your network cables, or maybe try using a different version of GCARS. The cables are fine, because the LED's on the router for each of the devices on the LAN are lighting up as they should be. I don't have time to try a different version of GCARS-CS, but I don't see why that would screw it up; 0.9.5 has always worked for me before. Do you think it could be that I used Samson's loader on one of the Cubes? I know that it hasn't been -*test*-('")ed extensively, but I thought GCARS-CS worked with it now. This is really annoying. Do you think I should try to get an Ethereal log?

Yes, that would definitely help. It's most likely that it's a bug in my network code.

Okay, the Ethereal log is at http://staff.littlemoonproductions.com/biolizard89/gcars-cs/095_dlink_router_lan_2006_06_14.eth I'm using GCARS-CS v0.9.5, with one Cube at 192.168.0.132 using PSUL, and the other Cube at 192.168.0.133 using Samson's Loader. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having a problem with ARPing default gateway. I do not have DHCP enabled on my connection, so I need a little bit of help. Even though I'm using a hub, and not a router, using another IP address I am able to download GCARS onto my cube. Now here is where I am confused. I am trying to play smash brothers with someone, and I don't know what my problem is. I know what my Subnet Mask and Defualt gateway are, but I get stuck at ARPing default gateway. The person I am trying to play with has DHCP and gets stuck at ARPing players. However - when I told this person to enter our IP addresses manually, he also got stuck at ARPing default gateway. Here's my questions: 1) When not using DHCP, do you enter the IP addresses for the player's cubes, or the IP addresses for the computers? 2) Are the default gateways and subnet masks supposed to match? If they are, should the players be using this information from player 1 or player 2? If anyone wants to try this out with smash brothers, please contact me.

I also have another question. In trying to figure out what I need to do to get this to work, I learned that the ethernet adapter in my computer is able to use DHCP, but the BBA in my gamecube may not be able to because the Mac address is not registered with the school. Is it possible to determine the mac address of your gamecube (so that I can register it)?

If you want your GameCube to use DHCP, leave it at 0.0.0.0. For all other players, enter their WAN IP's. In a router setup, the default gateway is your router's IP. Both the default gateway and subnet mask should be copied from the ipconfig output of a PC that is on the same network, if possible. If you are using DHCP, then what you enter for them doesn't matter; DHCP will retrieve them automatically. I don't know what to do with default gateway and subnet mask if you're not on a router setup. To determine your GameCube's Broadband Adapter's MAC address, just remove the BBA from the Cube and look on the face that is normally facing the top of your GameCube. The MAC address will be written there.
