Settings for LAN with Crossover Cable? What are the network settings I should enter when using a crossover cable rather than a router? I assume the IP's can't use DHCP, but what do I enter for Default Gateway and Subnet Mask? Sorry if this is a n00b question; I'm not particularly good with networking.

You're directly connecting two GameCubes together?
There's no real need for a gateway in this instance, however since Gcars is most likely expecting one, I'd set it to the IP address of the opposite Cube.
Subnet masks should be the same for each console, just about anything should work. Just go with the defaults (255.255.255.0 or 255.0.0.0, IIRC).
DHCP means that you don't configure any of the above information (or your IP addresses for that matter), it's all done by a seperate server. It's usually used when you've got a large number of computers networked together in a LAN and can't be bothered setting the addresses manually, but has the drawback that a machines address info may change if it is rebooted.

Yeah, setting the default gateway to the opposite GC's address is what you'll need to do. I should make it ignore this too if all the addresses are local.
GCARS ignores the subnet mask if all the clients are on the local network, so it doesn't matter what you put there.
DHCP is very useful, but it can make things difficult if you need to know the IP address of a machine on a DHCP network. Don't use it unless you (a) have a DHCP server (most routers are DHCP servers), and (b) are the only GC on your network (the others are remote).

Awesome, thanks for your help guys. If this works, then I can start working on Super Monkey Ball 2. :)
