Zelda4Swords; GCARS as a cpu player replacement?
hello guys, first off nice to see this project going kinda well, keep it up. back to the topic We all know that Zelda4Swords is a very funny game, IF... you can play it with 4 players. Most of us dont have 4 gbas and so on( atleast not my friends ;) .. so here is my question... Would it be possible to "use" GCARS as a gba replacement for the other 3 CPU player? or isnt it possible in any way? thats it, bye

There are open-source GBA emulators, so maybe Fuzziqer could use some of that code. I don't know; I'm really not familiar enough with the topic to know for sure.

well unless you want split screen gba's on the screen i dont think your going to need to "emulate" anything just trick the GC into thinking its sending info just by returning dummys :) but... the GC still might wanna verify the info so maybe you can send some gba info but im not sure wut sercuity lies in 4 swords

So what can I do, where can I start? Do I have the chance to get something to work without being a coder? I am very motivated do something :)

Other than that, I can't think of much you can do. Sorry.

Sorry.if i had the game i would >> sounds like a cool idea, but.. theres a thing, being the main tv, how are you going to get that data to the other players fast enough to keep it usable. theres a real problem there. And how would you connect a GBA to a pc? maybe theres cables for that, i dunno, wait we could abuse a GBplayer for this maybe << uhh.. Not like i dont want to see this one work out, but right now, i dont see how this can end up playable.

Four swords has two modes of play - Single, or multi. In a single player game, the three extra Links are controlled by the computer. In a multiplayer game, one player uses the TV screen, the other three use GBAs. There isn't any split screen mode on the single console. Hence to use Gcars instead of a GBA, all players use single player mode on their GC, and the CPU players are controlled via Gcars - much the same way as SSBM. No actual GBAs or emulators required.

Actually, this is still incorrect. The way 4 swords plays, in single player mode, all links are controlled by one person. Either they follow you while in formation, or you control one of them while the rest just sit there. There's no computer controled links. In multiplayer, everyone uses the tv. All players. The only time you go to the gba is when you enter a house or a cave or the dark world. But even when on the gba, things still show on the tv. Basically, anytime your link can't be seen on the overworld (which is always displayed on the tv) it appears on the gba. Me and some friends used to have a blast playing this game. The way the game does this, is it sends game information to the gba when you first turn the game on or connect a gba. It then sits at a menu waiting for more information which gets sent to it when you enter a place on the overworld. Once you leave the house or dungeon, the gba goes black and tells you to look back at the tv to continue playing. All of this happens seamlessly. The action never pauses to wait for someone to enter or exit.
